July 10 saw the launch of the kickstarter campaign for the OUYA Android video game console, one of the most exciting developments to occur recently in the video game industry. Within hours it had already reached its minimum $950,000 production costs. So, it will be happening, set for a March 2013 release.
The specifications are powerful and allow for a wide variety of applications. Of course, one of the best aspects of Android is that many games are free or free to play. Trip Hawkins provided great analytical evidence at the recent iFEST Independent Game Festival that suggested the future of gaming lays in browser-based devices on your television, etc. I’m starting to really believe that will be true.
