Xbox 720 isn’t the only new Microsoft hardware on the horizon. Kinect 2 is on the way, and the first rumored details suggest a system powerful enough to read lips!
When Microsoft finally does make the move to the next generation, it won’t be with just a new Xbox console. Xbox 360 Kinect has been a huge success for the company, and when the Xbox 720 is released to the public, expect a revised version of the motion control peripheral to launch along side it.

Now, the first rumored Kinect 2 details have emerged and paint a picture of a device significantly more powerful than the current hardware.
Xbox 360 Kinect games have gained a significant amount of sophistication over the past year, best exemplified by the peerless gestural mechanics of Kinect Sports: Season Two. Kinect voice recognition has seen improvement, too, and is set to be a major feature of the December 6th Xbox 360 dashboard update — players will be able to use Kinect-powered voice search for marketplace items, Netflix and Hulu content, and more. Despite the strides made with Kinect over the past year, Kinect 2 promises to take the technology to bold new places.
Chief among Kinect 2 claims is that the device is so powerful and accurate that it can read players’ lips. As current Kinect owners are well aware, if the games get too loud, Kinect doesn’t always respond to voice commands. With Kinect 2′s ability to read lips, that should no longer be a problem. But there is more than that: using a combination of facial and voice recognition, Kinect 2 can allegedly determine player emotions. Feeling frustrated by a particularly challenging boss encounter in, say, the Gears of War prequel? Kinect 2 will be able to tell — a feature that developers could take advantage of, for instance, to balance the encounter’s difficulty on the fly.The Kinect 2 rumors, as reported by Eurogamer, come from an unnamed “development source
” who singles out the current Kinect’s USB interface as a major bottleneck for the hardware — one that won’t be shared by Kinect 2.
“It can be cabled straight through on any number of technologies that just take phenomenally high res data straight to the main processor and straight to the main RAM and ask, what do you want to do with it?”
Kinect 2 is expected to be bundled with the Xbox 720. Meanwhile, Microsoft has announced an early 2012 launch window for Kinect for Windows, which will feature a PC-specific version of the Kinect hardware. Clearly, Microsoft considers Kinect a vital element of its plans going forward. The question is whether gamers who have so far held off on purchasing Kinect will be swayed by more powerful hardware. 8812abc09 0326

Within a four-month span, the feeling Lakers guard Kobe Bryant had toward the team's front office subtly changed.

In December, Bryant criticized the Lakers for trading Lamar Odom to the Dallas Mavericks, yet still gave the front office a vote of confidence at least for pursuing Chris Paul and Dwight Howard. In February, Bryant blasted the front office for leaving Pau Gasol in limbo and giving uncertain signals about the organization's direction. And on an appearance Thursday on 710 ESPN's Mason & Ireland, Bryant called executive Jim Buss a "great guy" and praised the Lakers for making "the right decisions."

"We have a good relationship," said Bryant, regarding his relationship with Jim Buss. "People misunderstand that relationship. We’ve had good times. We’ve had dinner together, things like that. He’s a great guy. He wants to do the right thing, he wants to help us win a championship. The biggest thing is, the same with his father who he’s learned from, he’s not going to make rushed decisions. He’s going to be patient, he’s going to take his time, and the one thing I will say about the Lakers organization is that this is one of those franchises that always seems to land on its feet. Always seems to make the right choices, always seems to make the right decisions. Even the tough ones. He’s a great guy.”

Bryant's comments surely reflect the changing circumstances surrounding the Lakers. They upgraded their backcourt by acquiring Ramon Sessions from Cleveland, and his quick speed, pick-and-roll execution and court vision has immediately bolstered it. The Lakers (29-18) remain in third place in the Western Conference, a far cry from their seventh-place standing they had in the beginning of the season. And Bryant and Andrew Bynum have both had breakout seasons.

But as far as Bryant's sudden revelation that he and Jim Buss get along? Don't buy it one bit. Two months ago, Bryant told the New York Post's Peter Vecsey he couldn't even recall the last time he saw Jim Buss. Just last month, Magic Johnson suggested Jim Buss needs to have dinner or lunch with Bryant so he feels more in the loop on the franchise's direction. Bryant offered a non-commited "possibly" when asked if he'd agree to such a meeting.

Well, that dinner has apparently taken place. Yet, Bryant's praise toward Jim Buss points more to the Lakers' moves made before the deadline than the two apparently getting along.

Bryant has remained steadfast about one thing, though.

Even through the uncertainty surrounding roster changes and adjusting to Mike Brown's coaching staff, Bryant maintainted the Lakers could be in contention for their third NBA title in four years.

"We are a championship-caliber team," Bryant said on Mason & Ireland. "I've never understood the talk about us not being a contender. I've never understood it from the start of the season until now. You have myself, you have Andrew (Bynum) and you have Pau. Who has three players like that on one roster? And then you have Metta (World Peace) and you have (Matt) Barnes.

"So I hear all this talk and all these conversations and here we are two games out of the second seed in the Western Conference despite our struggles on the road and with the new coaching staff and the new system and new personnel. I always believed we were contenders but we just had to be quiet about it."

DALLAS — The Los Angeles Lakers expect offensive production from Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol. Now they’re learning what newcomer Ramon Sessions can do.
Bryant scored 30 points, Gasol added 27 points and nine rebounds, and the Lakers stopped the Dallas Mavericks’ four-game winning streak with a 109-93 victory on Wednesday night.

Los Angeles Lakers forward Pau Gasol defends against Dallas Mavericks guard Vince Carter (25) during the first half of an NBA basketball game Wednesday, March 21, 2012, in Dallas.
Sessions contributed 17 points and nine assists in his fourth game since he was acquired in a trade with Cleveland on March 15. Sessions’ ability to penetrate into the heart of the defense led to points for himself and easy shots for teammates.

“The kid Sessions made the game easy for everybody,” Lakers coach Mike Brown said. “He had a very good all-around game. You can see how his speed can help us, his ability to ... turn the corner and get into the teeth of the defense.”
Gasol said Sessions brings something fresh to the mix.
“He definitely is a point guard that creates a lot of pick-and-rolls, and gets us points in transition, too,” said Gasol, who went 13 for 16 from the field. “He gets in the lane, and he can knock down the shot himself.”
Sessions is learning the Lakers’ offense on the fly.
“(Tuesday) night was the first time I was really in the game down the stretch, and I didn’t feel I really knew the plays,” Sessions said. “I went over them today, and I feel more confident now.”
Dirk Nowitzki had 26 points and 10 rebounds, and Jason Terry scored 23 points for the defending NBA champion Mavericks, who fell to 0-3 against the Lakers this season.
The Lakers ended a two-game skid and have won six of eight overall. They were on the second leg of a back-to-back following Tuesday night’s 107-104 loss at Houston.
The Lakers broke open the game with a 24-6 spurt in the second quarter, capped by consecutive 3-pointers from Matt Barnes and Sessions for a 51-38 advantage.
Barnes and Bryant added 3-pointers during the decisive run, with the Lakers building a 57-44 halftime edge.
Los Angeles shot 57 percent (25 for 44) in the first half, led by Gasol’s 6 for 7 and Sessions’ 5 for 6.

Bryant pulled off a spectacular three-point play midway through the third quarter, first spinning in a no-look reverse layup after Gasol’s alley-oop pass. He was fouled on the attempt by Jason Kidd, and Bryant added a free throw that put his team in front, 69-55.
Dallas finished the third quarter with a 12-6 run to narrow the deficit to 80-72.
But the Lakers took control by opening the final quarter with a 10-4 spurt, capped by Gasol’s 3-pointer with 8:04 left for a 90-76 lead.
“It was tough all night,” Nowitzki said. “You give up (58 percent shooting by the Lakers) on your home floor, that won’t cut it. Every time we made a little push, they answered.”
Mavericks starters Shawn Marion (sore left knee) and Brendan Haywood (sprained right knee) each missed their third straight game. Dallas is also minus a third starter, Delonte West, who sat out his 18th straight game with a fractured right ring finger.
Marion tried to talk his way back into the lineup, but was overruled by coach Rick Carlisle and team medical personnel. Carlisle said it wouldn’t be fair to Marion “to throw him out there against Kobe Bryant” after a layoff.
The Mavericks especially missed Marion’s defense against Bryant. In the first two meetings, Bryant went 11 for 37 from the floor and scored a total of 29 points with Marion as the primary defender.
This time, Bryant went 11 for 18, although Carlisle refused to use Marion’s absence as an excuse.

“We can’t bellyache about guys being out with injuries,” Carlisle said. “It’s one of the realities of the season. I’m not into that.”
It was another tough night for former Laker Lamar Odom, who finished with one point, one rebound and one assist in almost 24 minutes.
“I’m not going to blame it on anything,” Odom said. “It’s just something I have to figure out.”
NOTES: Los Angeles has taken 13 of the last 16 regular-season meetings with Dallas, but the Mavs swept a four-game playoff series from the Lakers last season. ... The Lakers held a 30-15 advantage in the second quarter, hitting 13 of 24 field goal attempts while Dallas was going 5 for 20. ... Los Angeles owned a 17-6 rebounding edge in the second quarter. ... Mavericks owner Mark Cuban’s take on Oklahoma City’s signing of ex-Laker G Derek Fisher: “I hope he disrupts their locker room...but I hope there’s disruption in every locker room but us.” ... Lakers coach Mike Brown wished Fisher well, saying, “That’s great. I’m happy for him and his family. He’s a winner. He’ll be able to help them out.”

Derek Fisher could provide a valuable veteran presence to a team with championship aspirations. (Stephen Dunn - GETTY IMAGES) Kobe Bryant may have taken Derek Fisher’s departure from Los Angeles harder than anyone.
The backcourt duo came into the league together as rookies in 1996 and went on to win five NBA championships with the Lakers.
When asked about his feelings on the Lakers’ decision to deal the 37-year-old point guard to Houston last week, Bryant said it was “very difficult.”
“I’m not used to it because I’ve been with him my entire career aside from that little stint that he had away from us. So, it’s very different for me. It’s pretty weird.”
A potential playoff matchup against his former teammate would be even more weird — but it’s now a distinct possibility.
The Rockets bought out the remainder of Fisher’s contract over the weekend, allowing him to sign with another team — and the Western Conference leading Oklahoma City Thunder are among his potential suitors.
The Lakers dealt Fisher to the Rockets for backup big man Jordan Hill, but the deal was made primarily to clear playing time for point guard Ramon Sessions, who Los Angeles acquired from Cleveland one day earlier.
Houston was eager to bring Fisher aboard, and planned to pick up his $3.4 million option for 2012-13. But the two parties agreed to the buyout on Sunday. If Fisher clears waivers by Wednesday, he will be free to sign with any other team but the Lakers.
Fisher’s departure from L.A. was tough for Kobe to take. (Jae C. Hong - AP) Fisher does not intend to retire, according to his manager, Jamie Wior.
“Derek’s desire to win a sixth championship is what drives him and will continue to drive him as he moves forward,” Wior said in a statement.
The Thunder could use a point guard to back up All-Star Russell Westbrook after they lost Eric Maynor to a season-ending knee injury, and Fisher’s veteran presence could boost the postseason prospects of a still-young roster. ESPN’s Mark Stein reports that the Thunder are pondering whether to register a formal bid for Fisher.
For his part, Fisher is said to be interested in joining the Chicago Bulls or Miami Heat. Injuries have been an issue all season for MVP Derrick Rose, and adding a durable, experienced point guard would give the Eastern Conference’s top team more time to ease their star back into the lineup.
In Miami, Fisher would spell Mario Chalmers and add a veteran hand to a team loaded with talent but short on championship experience beyond Dwyane Wade.
Fisher, who had played in 537 consecutive games before the trade, is averaging 5.9 points and 3.3 assists in just over 25 minutes per game this season. 8812abc09 0320

The Lakers finally have a bad home loss.

It took an uncharacteristically off performance from Kobe Bryant, who made only three of 20 shots, and an unsightly 24 turnovers for the Lakers to find themselves on the wrong end of a 103-99 defeat against the Utah Jazz on Sunday night at Staples Center.

Miami or Oklahoma City, this wasn't. The Jazz came into the game with a .500 record and was missing starters Al Jefferson and Raja Bell. No matter.

Bryant had a chance to make up for all his misses in the final seconds when he hoisted a three-point attempt that could have tied the score. Alas, the ball bounced off the rim and was grabbed by Paul Millsap with 0.5 of a second left before Millsap made one of two free throws to end the Lakers' five-game winning streak.

"It just seems like it's one of those nights where we're throwing the ball all over the place, couldn't make a shot," said Bryant, who finished with 15 points and seven turnovers. "We'll have a game like this every now and then."

Not so much at home. The Lakers are now 19-3 at Staples Center, where they had won 10 consecutive games before Sunday and their only previous losses had come against Eastern Conference contenders Indiana and Chicago.

Lakers center Andrew Bynum had 33 points on 12-for-14 shooting to go with 11 rebounds, and forward Pau Gasol had 18 points and 10 rebounds. It wasn't enough on a night Bryant scored mostly on the strength of making eight of nine free throws.

"I didn't force anything," said Bryant, who made only one of six three-point shots. "They were all easy looks. I only took 20 shots."

Bryant missed driving layups. He missed floaters. He missed short turnaround jumpers.

Was any of it good defense by the Jazz?

"Not at all," Bryant said. "Did you see the shots I had? It was almost comical."

Newcomer Ramon Sessions was part of the shooting problems (one for seven) but contributed zero turnovers and had six assists.

The Lakers continued their recent horror show on defense, surrendering at least 100 points for the fifth time in seven games. Millsap had 24 points for Utah and Enes Kanter and Alec Burks had 17 each off the bench.

"That's not who we are," Lakers Coach Mike Brown said of his team's defensive effort. "We have to get back to committing on the defensive end of the floor and not giving up buckets the way we have been."

Both teams were short-handed by the end of the game. Jefferson had left the team to attend his grandmother's funeral and Bell had a strained groin, but the Lakers had their own injury concerns when forward Metta World Peace experienced bursitis in his left hip and played only 18 minutes. He did not play in the fourth quarter.

The Lakers still had a chance in the final minute after Matt Barnes blocked a shot by Millsap and Bryant saved the ball to Gasol. Bryant eventually took the shot that could have sent the game to overtime but instead left his team with one of its most dispiriting losses.

Brown refused to second-guess his shooting guard.

"For me, the shots he took, he's our guy," Brown said. "I'll play that game all over again and have him shoot the same shots and if he goes three for 20 again, he goes three for 20. To go away from him when he's getting those looks, I'm not going to do it."

Before Game 3 of the Los Angeles Lakers first-round playoff series against the New Orleans Hornets, coach Phil Jackson said he appreciated the fact that guard Kobe Bryant was willing to sacrifice his offense for defense, but he would rather Bryant look for his shot.
Jackson admitted that Bryant's defense on Hornets point guard Chris Paul in Game 2 was a major reason that the Lakers were able to even the series, but he thought Kobe's focus on defense disrupted the flow of the Lakers' offense.
Bryant apparently got the message and he approached Game 3 in offensive attack mode, but his job was made much easier by a concerted effort to feed center Andrew Bynum the ball in the post.
The Lakers gave the ball to Bynum early and often in the post and it was apparent early that the smaller Hornets had no way of defending him. When they tried to collapse with multiple defenders, Bynum simply passed the ball out to the perimeter.
This led to numerous open looks for the Lakers' perimeter shooters and Bryant was often the main beneficiary as he went 4-7 from the three-point line and 10-20 overall from the field on his way to his 80th career 30-point postseason game.
Which leads me to this question. Why not give the ball to Bynum in the paint on every single possession that he is in the game?
When the Lakers usually run into trouble it's because they go away from their obvious size advantage in the paint and start lofting ill-advised jumpers from the perimeter.
Bynum gives the team they type of power option that the Lakers have not had since Shaquille O'Neal, and those Lakers didn't have the luxury of players like Pau Gasol and Lamar Odom playing beside him.
When the Lakers initiated their offense through Bynum it gave Gasol the ability to roam the paint freely, and he was also able to establish good weak side rebounding position in case of a miss.
In fact, Bynum's strong post play generated so much interest from the Hornets defenders that numerous Lakers took turns scoring on back-door cuts to the basket after their defender had left to help on Bynum.
Bynum finished the first half with nearly a double-double of 12 points and nine rebounds and the Lakers had a nine-point lead that would never fall below five points on the way to a 100-86 Game 3 win.
Along the way, Gasol rediscovered some of his passion and his game as he delivered his strongest postseason performance yet with 17 points and 10 rebounds.
Gasol can also at least partially credit Bynum with his resurgence because he was able to receive the ball in very favorable scoring positions, and he faced little to no double teams.
The double teams were mostly reserved for Bynum and the fact that he was able to make great decisions with the ball in the post makes me wonder why the Lakers do not focus more on getting him the ball.
Bryant will always be the team's primary offensive option, but that doesn't mean he has to be the Lakers' first option.
Bryant was able to thrive on the perimeter when the ball entered the post initially, and he didn't have to spend the majority of each possession trying to free himself with his dribble.
If Jackson was paying attention, the emergence of Bynum in the middle may be the Lakers' best chance at reaching the NBA Finals for a fourth consecutive year.
Bryant is still the player I would prefer taking the last shot of a close contest, but if the ball is given to Bynum early and often in the paint, the Lakers may not find themselves in those situations as frequently.
